Sustainability
Sustainability and responsibility are central to how we operate, and we are continually refining our practices as we grow. Particularly as fuel is becoming a bigger issue globally. Our approach covers sourcing, energy use, packaging, and community impact:
Low-Impact Roasting Energy
We roast using locally sourced Mānuka wood from farm clearance and land management activities. This material is already being removed as part of vegetation control and land-use management, rather than being harvested specifically for fuel.
We collect and process this wood ourselves locally, keeping the loop small, traceable, respectful, and grounded in place.
While most commercial coffee roasters rely on fossil fuels such as natural gas or LPG, our approach uses renewable biomass instead, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.
Using Mānuka wood also gives the roast a distinctive character that comes directly from the fuel source and reflects the landscape it comes from.
Further innovations are underway as we continue exploring additional non-fossil fuel sustainable alternatives for coffee roasting.

Packaging & Waste Reduction
We use packaging supplied locally by Convex, a company internationally recognised for its innovation in plastic-free and next-generation compostable materials that move beyond traditional PLA-based solutions. These are successfully broken down in domestic worm farms and compost.
All of our cups and packaging are compostable, and we continually review the materials we use to reduce environmental impact across the entire product lifecycle.
We also offer refill systems for customers who prefer bulk deliveries in reusable buckets, helping to reduce single-use packaging and waste further.

Local operations & footprint
Being locally based is an important part of our model. Keeping sourcing, roasting, and distribution within the region significantly reduces transport distances and associated emissions, while also strengthening traceability and accountability in our supply chain.
Working locally also helps us build stronger relationships with suppliers, customers, and the wider community, keeping value and impact close to home.

Ethical sourcing
We source green coffee through import partners John Burton and producer relationships that prioritise transparency, fair pricing, and long-term sustainability at origin. We are confident in their processes and in supporting stable, ethical supply chains that work for both growers and the café.
Community impact
We also place importance on supporting local initiatives and community wellbeing. This includes supporting local charitable events and causes. We are a long-term part of organic communities that support local supply, such as the Cambridge and Hamilton Farmers Markets.
